Established in 1919, Ward Brothers is a family run furniture and flooring store with over 100 years experience and expertise in fine furniture. Our city centre shop in Doncaster boasts over 100 beautiful displays across three floors, all showcasing the very best designs from every top brand supplier around the world. 1919
Tom and Fred Ward commence manufacturing furniture in Cemetery Road, Doncaster.
1922
Ward Brothers acquire their first warehouse at 8, 9 and 11 Society Street.
1930
Ward Brothers open their first retail outlet 32 Harewood Terrace.
1935-1945
Ward Brothers continue to trade during the second world war selling utility furniture.
1954
Tom Ward, one of the original founders, dies. Fred Ward’s son in law, Harold Fiddler joins the business.
1958
Ward Brothers expansion continues through the acquisition of 40, Waterdale.
1961
Kelham Street warehouse is built.
1969
Ward Brothers celebrates its 50th anniversary. Scunthorpe branch is opened.
1972
Fred Ward, one of the original founders, dies.
1975
Howard Fiddler, grandson of Fred Ward, joins the business.
1976
Ward Brothers wins “Best Stand Award” at Doncaster Impel Exhibition.
1977
Attenborough & Beets garage is acquired and converted into showroom.
1980
TV celebrity Anita Harris opens the new G Plan gallery.
1992
Ward Brothers undergoes huge renovations and central staircase installed.
1997
Rt Honourable Rosie Winterton MP presents Investors in People Award to Ward Brothers. Ward Brothers Finalist in Chamber of Commerce Business Award - Employer of the Year.
1999
Ward Brothers wins Chamber of Commerce Business Award - Success Through People.
2008
Current Managing Director and great grandson of Fred Ward, Tom Fiddler, joins the business.
2017
Ward Brothers wins Associated Independent Stores Retailer of the Year Award.
2019
Ward Brothers celebrates 100th Anniversary.
